Background
The progress of recombinant gene technology has enabled us to produce proteins which originally were only found in very small quantities in the body. These proteins are now used in a variety of industries, ranging from human pharmaceuticals to diagnostics. The recent decoding of the human genome by both public and private research institutes has created many new and exciting developments. For example using information from the genome sequence to develop new drugs. The genome sequence however is only the start. From this information we now must tackle the challenging task of analyzing protein structure, function, activity etc. Due to this fact the importance protein expression and production is clear.

ProtienExpress co. Ltd. (PE) has positioned itself so it can take full advantage of these developments. We have been developing expertise in the field of protein production for over 20 years. We are continuing to carry out research in this field in order to further enhance the technology we already possess.

PE was established from the biotechnology research department of Higeta Shoyu co. In Higeta this department was involved biotechnology research since the early 1980's based on know how developed over 400 years of soy sauce fermentation. One of the successes which resulted from this research was the creation of the Bacillus brevis protein expression system. This protein expression system was subsequently used for the production of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on an industrial scale, as part of a commercial venture which included, among others, CSIRO ( Australian national research institute ).

Through its technology and expertise PE aims to establish itself as a leading company in the area of protein production and research.
